Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants
These grants are awarded by schools and provide assistance for undergraduates with the greatest financial need - in other words, students with the lowest Expected Family Contributions. The federal government gives the institution a set amount of money and the institution disburses the funds to eligible students. The program gives priority to students who receive Pell Grants; however, there's no guarantee that every eligible student will be able to receive Pell and FSEOG. Students at each school receive FSEOG based on the availability of funds at that school.
These federal grants range from $100 to $4,000 per award year. Funds are limited so most eligible students do not receive the maximum award.
