Learn More About Wisconsin Private Colleges

Wisconsin's 20 private colleges and universities educated more than 56,000 students last year and granted more than 11,000 degrees. They boasted a minority enrollment of 11.73%. The Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (WAICU), supporting these colleges and universities, takes as its mission access to higher education for every qualified student. Please link to the following resources and events for more information.

Private College Week — Visit these campus websites or call the admissions departments to schedule a tour and to learn more about admissions from admissions representatives and financial aid counselors. Pay no application fees at any campus you visit! For more information, call 1-800-4-DEGREE or visit www.GoIndependent.org.

Private College Fairs — Selecting a college or university is one of the most important decisions you will ever make! To help you in your search, representatives of the 20 private colleges and universities of Wisconsin will be gathered at the Davians Banquet and Conference Center on October 3. They will be available to answer your questions and show you the next steps in your college admissions process. Also, Dr. Mari McCarty, executive vice president of WAICU, will present informative sessions throughout the evening on how to pay for college.

Guide to Admissions and Financial Aid — This 32-page booklet provides a wealth of information about all 20 of WAICU's private colleges and universities. A page is devoted to each individual college or university, plus there is information on recommended high school courses, admissions deadlines and fees, financial aid, how to contact people on campus, major areas of study, and degrees offered. This is a very thorough and efficient source of information.

College Visit Opportunites — Each year, the admissions and financial aid offices on each WAICU campus set aside special days and weekends for high school students to visit. These visits can include taking tours, visiting classes, meeting students, professors and coaches, and staying overnight in a dorm room. In the spring, some campuses encourage a visit for accepted students to give them a more thorough introduction to the college or university. It should be emphasized that individual tours and visits can be arranged at almost any time by contacting the admissions office.
